Nigeria’s designation as a Country of Particular Concern has forced Abuja into direct dialogue with Washington, amid ongoing attacks, abductions, and persistent questions about state response. While the first US–Nigeria working group session signals cooperation and renewed military support, it also exposes deeper uncertainties about political will, accountability, and what Nigeria must ultimately deliver to secure removal from the CPC list.
The security challenges in the Sahel are continuing the trajectory of moving southwards towards the Gulf of Guinea. And it appears that a new flashpoint may be arising as well.
